Barossa Beauty Garden
Description
Located in front of the Natural Resource Centre, this garden contains low to medium herbaceous plants and shrubs which are used as examples of plants sold in the nursery. This garden contains mass plantings of daisies, native flax, a short correa hedge and to showcase the State (NPWS) threatened species Eryngium vesiculosum (Prostrate Blue Devil), rated as Endangered.
This garden is part of a roundabout for vehicles to drive around and showcases low to medium herbaceous plants and shrubs, plus several Ridge-fruited Mallee Eucalyptus incrassata (Ridge-fruited Mallee), to give the garden a sense of height, without impairing view for drivers.
Objectives and Background
A demonstration garden for plants that are sold in the Community Nursery. It allows visitors to view a selection of local native plants without having to take longer walks through the garden.
This garden was likely established after the Volunteer Centre was built in 2011 to beautify the entrance area and make it aesthetically attractive to visitors.
Conservation
This garden contains a patch of State threatened species National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 (NPWS 1972). Listed under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 (NPWS 1972), Eryngium vesiculosum (Prostrate Blue Devil), is listed as Endangered and is carefully maintained. Seeds are collected and propagated for nursery production.
